Rajkummar Rao: “I am not the eye candy in Queen.”

Kangana Ranaut is surely reigning the promos of Vikas Bahl’s Queen, but the lead hero Rajkummar Rao insists he has a meaty role. “The story is very unique and is very feel good. Vikas Bahl is a really good guy. My character has a lot of transformation. The film starts with me wooing Kangana. I success in that, and I go to London for further studies. I didn’t want to miss being part of a really good film. I don’t know if this film will be another feather to my cap or not. But I am really proud of the film, I can count it in my good films’ list.”

Rajkummar was last seen in Hansal Mehta’s Shahid and was appreciated in his lead act as the terror afflicted lawyer. Though the film didn’t well, “I still get good comments on twitter about the role.”

After a moving role like Shahid, is Rajkummar falling into the trap of singing films for-the-heck-of-being-seen-all-the-time? “The film’s name is Queen like Shahid revolved around Shahid. I am not the eye candy in Queen. I will never do a part where I have to play one. You give so much time to a film; it (shooting) is a draining and long process.”

He praises his onscreen Queen: “Kangana is very talented actress. I know her as a human being after this film, she is very down-to-earth girl and very passionate for acting. We both were improvising on the sets; we were reacting to each other. I give her the nickname Queen. She decides to go on her honeymoon alone.”
 
After the quirky Vikas Bahl film, Rajkummar film be seen in Mahesh Bhatt’s Citylight and Hansal Mehta’s next. “Dolly Ki Doli is a fantastic film; it is the best script I have read. I haven’t’ started shooting for it yet.”

Rajkummar believes that Shahid has been a game changer. “Shahid was definitely an eye-opener for a lot of people, with regards to my acting talent. That was technically my first sole lead project. People have took notice of me, and enjoy believe that this guy can pull off a sole lead film on his shoulders. After Shahid, Mahesh Bhatt called me and offered me Citylight. That film releases this year.”

He further adds: “Last year was fantastic; Kai Po Che and Shahid both were loved. I believe every year, I should have two films releasing and I will be sorted. It is about a Rajasthan couple, who are from a remote area, who shift to Mumbai for a better livelihood and survival and the city treats them. It is a love story, which converts into a thriller. It is the official remake of a Philipino film called Metro Manila.”
